Our Local Governing Body
At St Clement's CE Primary School we have a committed and dedicated Local Governing Body. All governors work to ensure the effective management of the school, alongside the Headteacher and her Deputy, and contribute a range of skills from a variety of backgrounds. The Governor's role is strategic, not operational, and includes ensuring vision is being turned into reality, ethos is being embedded and progress is being made against the School's action plan. The relationship between the Governors and the Head Teacher and staff is one of support and challenge.
Governors are often in school, formally and informally, keeping in touch with school life. They meet regularly throughout the year, either as a 'whole body' or in sub committees. Our Governors also undertake regular planned monitoring visits to the school, monitoring a specific area of the School's action plan.
Anne Panayiotou - Chair of Governors (Appointed Governor)
I am the Chair of Governors at St Clement’s School and was delighted when Aquila Trust invited me to take on this role. I am looking forward to collaborating with the school, its pupils, and their families to support them in all their endeavours.
I have lived on Sheppey since 1996, and both of my children attended schools on the Island. I have always been passionate about education, and when I was asked by the Aquila Trust to consider becoming a governor in 2019, I was pleased to accept.
I am a retired teacher and spent over half of my career teaching in Swale schools, including eleven years at a Middle School on Sheppey. I have always enjoyed working with and supporting children, parents and staff, and I am proud to be part of St Clement’s, which has a happy, welcoming atmosphere where children are polite and keen to do their best.
I look forward to supporting the school as it continues to develop and grow, helping it to achieve its vision for all pupils.
Hazell Gibson (Appointed Governor)
I have lived on the Island all my life and have experienced the local education system, which gives me insight into many of the issues facing our community.
I retired from my career in accountancy during the pandemic to help care for my grandson and have since volunteered to join the enthusiastic team at St Clement’s as a School Governor. I am proud to contribute to the school and the wider local community in this role.
Kelly Lockwood (Head Teacher and Lead DSL)
I am proud to have been Headteacher of St Clement’s CEP School since April 2023. Prior to this, I served as Acting Headteacher at Eastchurch Primary School on the Isle of Sheppey. I have worked in schools on the Island since April 2020, joining at the very start of the pandemic.
Since then, I have been part of the journey of academisation, the de-merging from Eastchurch, and the establishment of a new school. I have been a school governor since 2009 and previously worked in Thanet, including serving as Head of School at a Catholic primary school, before coming to the Island.
I am passionate about education and firmly believe that all children have the right to an excellent start to their young lives. I work tirelessly to engage with the most hard-to-reach families and strive to build a thriving, inclusive community where all stakeholders can grow and flourish together.
Hannah French (Staff Governor)
I am delighted to serve as Deputy Headteacher and SENCO at St Clement’s, a role I took on in April 2023, and I also have the privilege of serving as Staff Governor.
I qualified as a Primary School Teacher in 2006 and have worked in several primary schools across Kent, gaining a wealth of experience supporting children and their learning. Since joining St Clement’s, I have been excited to contribute to the school’s ongoing journey, helping every child to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
I am passionate about ensuring that every child receives the support and opportunities they need to flourish, and I am committed to working alongside colleagues, families and the wider community to create a school where all children can achieve their dreams.
Natalie Chapman (Parent Governor)
I am a Parent Governor and live with my husband and our three children (aged 17, 9 and 4). All of our children have attended, currently attend, or will attend St Clement’s, and we are proud to be part of the school community.
I have worked with children and young people for over 18 years and currently work for a local charity supporting children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse.
I joined the Governing Board to continue my involvement with St Clement’s and to contribute to its ongoing success. I am passionate about ensuring that children receive a strong start in their education. I believe that nurturing a love of learning from an early age enables children to grow and flourish during their time at St Clement’s. My hope is that when they leave, they do so equipped with the skills, confidence and determination needed to continue their educational journey and achieve their dreams.
Wilma Jack (Appointed Governor)
I was born in Scotland and moved to the Island in 1980, where I have lived ever since. I began my career as a nurse at Sheppey Community Hospital and later became the Manager for Outpatients across Sheppey and Sittingbourne.
After retiring in March 2022, I was delighted to become a Governor at St Clement’s School, enabling me to continue contributing to and supporting our local community.
Chris Dale (Governor)
Chris Dale is Headteacher of St Nicholas, New Romney, where he leads a caring and ambitious school community rooted in strong Christian values and high expectations for every child. He is committed to creating an environment in which pupils feel safe, inspired and confident to achieve their very best, both academically and personally.
Chris works closely with staff, families and the wider community to ensure that learning is engaging, inclusive and grounded in respect, kindness and resilience. Under his leadership, the school places equal importance on academic success, character development and spiritual growth, enabling pupils to develop curiosity, confidence and a strong sense of belonging. His vision is for every child to leave as a well-rounded learner, prepared for the next stage of education and equipped to make a positive contribution to society.
He is also an experienced governor and has worked in this capacity with other Aquila schools.
